She might be your Mom, or the Mother of your children-- doesn't she deserve something extraordinary this Mother's Day? Celebrate with Geoffrey Good and Atelier Leseine, and give her something she'll treasure forever!

The soft femininity of Atelier Leseine's Tahitian Black Pearls are captured within the compelling geometry of Geoffrey Good's signature polyhedral forms, vividly accented with dozens of fine diamonds. Visit here for more details. Don't delay; Mother's Day is May 13th-- and we've made only one pair of these earrings!

I've mentioned before how much I love what I do. Although it's nice to know that people will covet my creations without knowing anything about me, I would quickly become disenchanted if confined solely to creating objects for customers I'll never meet. How fortunate then I am, playing a small part in the union of so many couples who've decided to celebrate their commitment to each other.

When creating for an engagement, wedding, commitment or anniversary, I have both the privilege and responsibility of really getting to know my clients. I need to divine their personal style, and (in the case of engagement and anniversary rings presented with an element of surprise) it is often a test for them as to how well they think they know their significant other. I'm certainly not qualified to be a therapist, but the process I guide often does have a clarifying and strengthening effect that comes from the reflection necessary to create. More often than you might imagine, a client will begin with one idea and emerge by the end having changed direction completely.

In the case of the rings above, however, the usual element of surprise was eliminated by practicality. The tables were turned, with her knowing exactly what she would receive and instead suprising her fiancé Michael with his wedding band. Kristy knew she wanted a ring that combined the engagement and wedding ring into a single object, and had always been partial to my Diamond Hex Ring (recently featured in Martha Stewart Weddings). The rings above were our solution, crafted in 18k White Gold-Palladium and augmented with fine diamonds.

Best wishes to Michael and Kristy, and thanks for letting me be a part of your celebration!

The holidays are once again upon us, and the elves in the GG workshop have been exceptionally busy creating gifts of affection and commitment for others to bestow upon their loved ones. Whether you've been bad or good is a decision best left for your friends and family; regardless, we like to think that everybody deserves a little GG in their lives.

Nevertheless, the Merry-Go-Round of 2011 is nearly finished. The ups and downs of our lives are neither predictable nor controllable, and time always does the telling. The music of the year is fading, yet most of us continue to travel in our familiar circles without perhaps fully appreciating the present moment and our relative good fortune.

Don't wait for the ride to end-- savor now the good things in your life, whether many or few. Look for beauty and wonder with all of your senses, and remember to let those others in your life know that you appreciate them.

All the best,

My father returned recently from a jaunt to Namibia, which has a landscape like no other. With views like that shown above, I have no choice but to move it towards the top of my travel-to list. The solitary Oryx antelope shown above (image by Charles Good) has lethal horns which render it capable of killing any attacking lions.

Your fun fact for the week!

The GG workshop took a short hiatus last week while I visited the prestigious SOFA (Sculptural Objects and Functional Art) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We had the honor of being represented there by Jerry Szor Contemporary Jewelry (of Dallas), and the pleasure of taking in the clean air and gracious hospitality of the region. Santa Fe manages to be completely and obviously devoted to tourism while somehow preserving a sense of realism, and I must say I quite enjoyed the change in scenery.

From arrival to departure, one truly has the sense of being in a place where life proceeds at a different pace and intensity. The small airport was quite charming. While groups were being called to board my return flight I was amused to discover that I was Group 3, all by myself. Not as amusing was the ride on the rather small jet that connected me to my return leg home-- I never feel more alive than while sitting through turbulence in a small plane at 35,000 feet, wondering if I will gain an intimate knowledge of the crop circles far below me.

Yet I survived to continue pursuing the vision that bears my name, and will next week be back in the thick of our plans for Fall11. Keep an eye out for new pieces and new places, and I wish you safe travels wherever your path takes you this summer!

I'll readily admit that what I get to do on a daily basis is pretty special. How many of us get to do what we love for a living? Most rewarding for me, however, is when I'm able to create special pieces for friends that are dear to me-- such as the Moderne Engagement Ring shown here.

An opulent cushion-cut antique diamond of 2.25 carats, presented in a sculptured platinum mounting that deftly marries the old to the new. She'll still need something borrowed and something blue (if you believe in the Victorian poem stipulating what brides need for good luck), but I've allowed her to cross at least two items off the list...

Look for alternate views of this new classic on the website soon-- and be sure to congratulate Chris and Carla when you see them!

I'm out of here. Today's high humidity and a temperature of nearly 100 degrees (in early June, mind you) make me happy that I'm leaving for LA and SF tomorrow. A bit of work, some sailing and lots of eating/drinking will occur over the next two weeks, in a climate less evocative of mad dogs and Englishmen.

Tomorrow we'll be working up to the last moment as we did today, however, crafting unique pieces for private clients and developing new ideas for the line. F/W2012 is going to bring some amazing objects of adornment to light! New materials and forms, and a serious (if highly minimalist) look at jewelry for the man in your life.

Shown here are Diamond Hex Bands fresh from the bench-- his in Graphite Silver with Black Diamonds, and hers in 18k White Gold-Palladium with White Diamonds. Featured recently in Martha Stewart Weddings, we've been creating these iconic pieces for both commitment-driven and fashion-conscious fans.
